Leadership in the Simon Balle PE curriculum is very strong. In Key stage 3 pupils are expected to be able to lead warm-ups from year 7 onwards. A new Sports Education unit has been introduced where pupils participate in a number of sports where they select their own teams, plan their own tournaments and are awarded points on how well they lead warm-ups and in year 9 how well they deliver drills.
In year 10, all pupils participate in at least 2 hours of physical activity per week. One of these hours are spent taking the Simon Balle Leadership Award. In order for pupils to be successful they must achieve the following criteria;
- Lead a warm-up with/ without equipment
- Design and deliver a relay activity to their peers
- Teach a skill to their peers
- Officiate
- Assist and deliver a lesson in the local Primary schools
- Assist and deliver a lesson to Year 7 pupils at Simon Balle
In Year 12 pupils have the opportunity to take the Community Sports Leaders course (CSL) and in Year 13 the Higher Sports Leaders course (HSL)
Pupils are also given the opportunity to gain a variety of leadership awards such as, fencing, cricket, football, lacrosse, netball and many more.
