County success for Simon Balle School

Over the past few days Girl’s football at Simon Balle has once again displayed its strength in depth with the U13 and U14 girls progressing to the next stage of their respective County cup competitions.

Today the U13 girls played Marlborough school and what a game they all had. Within the first couple of minutes the girls were 2-0 up with goals from Tor and Dani Hill. After that Tor Hill led from the front scoring an impressive 5 goals with Simon Balle running out     10-0 winners. This puts the girls into the last 4 of the County cup another great achievement. Well done to all the girls involved.

On Thursday the year 9 girls (current county champions) played Parmiters and without star player Flo Fyffe they romped home to a 7-o win with 5 goals from the phenomenal Abbey Bensted, surely a star of the future and a fantastic leader who leads by example. Chloe Ring also scored along with Eliza Weekes’ diving header. The girls are now into the quarter final stage.

Girls Basketball Update

U14 GIRLS BASKETBALL:

Paige Ambler, Naomi Shephard, Tor Hill, Abbey Conroy, Emily Hook & Lily Canham represented the school in the recent U14 Hertford and Ware basketball tournament.  Despite being a year younger than most other players and only having 6 players, they played brilliantly, narrowly losing out to Presdales in the final by 2 baskets.  Emily Hook, Abbey Conroy & Tor Hill were all selected to attend County trials in February.

U12 GIRLS BASKETBALL:

Hannah Kiernan, Leah Wilkerson, Jenny Goodson, Chloe Smith, Georgia Turville, Cerys Atkins, Louise Reilly, Molly Robinson, Olivia Scrutton & Maddy Coupe represented the school in the U12 Hertford and Ware Basketball tournament and played superbly to win the tournament, only conceding 1 basket in whole tournament.  They went on to represent Hertford and Ware in the County finals on Wednesday and again did themselves proud, winning 2 games, losing 2 games (one by 1 basket and one by 2 baskets) and coming third overall.

Well done to both the Year 7 and Year 8 girls teams who have shown a great commitment to basketball in the last 2 terms and their hard work has paid off.  The future looks very bright for both teams next season when the 2 year groups will join together to form the Under 14 squad.  We are also looking to enter the district league again next year to give the girls more game experience.
